:: Donate to the New Island Conservation
Trust :: Would you like to help us? Funds for our continuing conservation efforts on the island are constantly being sought; in the past these monies have gone towards many successful projects, from an extensive Invasive Species (Black Rat) census and trapping programme, through to establishing the island's population of our small burrowing petrel, the Thin-billed Prion - which led us to learn the valuable fact that New Island is one of the World's most important breeding grounds for this species of sea bird! We have used generously donated funds to build our Field Station - an essential asset to all of the work that takes place on the Island. New Island is home to many threatened species; not only are these birds and animals important to the Falkland Islands' biodiversity, but they are important in global terms too. The Rockhopper Penguin, for example, breeds in the Falkland Islands and we have a substantial population on New Island. This population however, now stands at only a tiny percentage of what it used to be; the situation is the same for many of the Rockhopper breeding sites in the islands, yet the reason behind this decline is yet to be uncovered. Currently we are involved in projects to try and learn more about the breeding and foraging ecology of Rockhopper penguins - with this knowledge we can work towards bigger goals, such as establishing marine reserves. All the money that we raise is channelled directly into projects such as these, without your help, our work would simply not be possible. :: How can you donate? :: Send us a cheque in the mail The simplest way to donate to us is to post us a cheque. This will be received by the Secretary of the New Island Conservation Trust; our address may be found on our Contact page. Or, you can drop us a line and find out how to make an electronic transfer - we hold accounts both in the Falkland Islands and in the UK. :: Our American branch of the Trust allows us to also receive donations in the United States - please contact us for more details.
